"An outstretched hand to transport us into intimacy, the sublime, lost and wasted loves, the drama of Emma Calvé's life (...) A tableau of sensations and passion." gillesbertrand-photography.com

In the intimacy of a dressing room, two women - a pianist and a soprano - talk, sing, dance, and laugh. A third presence is sensed through their words: that of an opera singer whose subtle portrait they will paint. Sensitive memories, poetic meditation, creation of opera roles, stories of theatre and life, and interpretation of the greatest soprano arias intertwine to illuminate the extraordinary destiny of Emma Calvé. What fighting spirit, what vital forces does the immense Aveyron-born diva attempt to transmit to us across the century?

This musical show, written and directed by Justine Wojtyniak, will explore a joy for living and wild enthusiasm. Two artistic residencies marked the creation of The Bird You Thought You'd Surprise Flapped Its Wing and Flew Away: in February 2024 at the Millau and Grands Causses Museum (Mumig) and in October 2024 at the Théâtre de la Maison du Peuple, with a presentation in January 2025 during Les Givrées.
